As most of you know, Currie Hill Velie was an artist, in
her life and in her work. Her creativity was a gift, yet we were the fortunate
ones because one of her many passions was sharing her talent with others.
For a while back in the Touring Days, Currie made shirts, many of which featured
the dancing bear. She made a series of these shirts and, for a time, they were
quite recognized on tour. Looking back, it’s pretty obvious why she chose the
bear – it was and is the perfect embodiment of Currie herself; her energy,
spirit and boundless enthusiasm for life. Selling those shirts was also in
keeping with Currie’s seemingly endless commitment while she was alive to
spreading her positive karma to others.
We have taken the liberty, with Joe’s permission, to re-create one of Currie’s
original designs; to once again share Currie’s gift with others and to ensure
that her creative spirit endures.
Perhaps more importantly, all proceeds from the sale of these shirts will go to
the Velie Recreation Park. We hate to say, “while supplies last”, but
we’ve only produced a limited number. We’d love to sell out and have to print
another run, if the demand is there. We’re also open to expanding the range –
baby sizes, sweatshirts, discs, etc. And for those of you who still own a “CHV
Original”,
feel free to send in a digital scan – or a related story - so we can post it on
this site – and potentially use it to re-create another series.
As always, thanks for your continued support.
